🥎 Play ball!
Today, your Whitby Firefighters traded hoses for ball gloves as A2 and B2 faced off in a friendly platoon vs. platoon softball showdown, with a few guest appearances from A1 to round out the roster.
After a competitive matchup of elite athleticism from both sides, B2 came away with the win... and, most importantly, ultimate bragging rights!
A big thank you to all the members who came out and took the field, and an even bigger thank you to the loved ones who filled the stands, and even made a few clutch plays when our teams needed them most!
Special shout out to Captain Craig Sluman for “stepping up to the plate” and organizing such a great day!

Today, on National PTSD Awareness Day, we recognize that the impacts of this job are not always visible.
As first responders, we carry experiences that can stay with us long after the call is over.
That is why it’s important to recognize the signs of PTSD in ourselves and in each other, and to look out for one another both on and off the trucks.
Making sure we care for our mental health allows us to better support each other and to better serve our community of Whitby with strength and compassion.
Awareness helps break stigma. Conversations create space for support, and a simple “How are you, really?” can make a meaningful difference.
No one should have to carry it alone ❤️

The IAFF Center of Excellence for Behavioral Health Treatment and Recovery is a one-of-a-kind addiction treatment facility specializing in PTSD for IAFF members – and IAFF members only – who are struggling with addiction, PTSD other related behavioral health challenges to receive the help they need in taking the first steps toward recovery. It is a safe haven for members to talk with other members who have faced or overcome similar challenges.
